What to Expect at a Veterinary Appointment
Knowing what to expect at your first appointment will make it easier for both you and your pet to enjoy the experience.
Before Your Appointment
If your pet has received veterinarian care please ensure we have received your pets medical and vaccination records before your appointment.
Meet Your Veterinarian
A member of our staff will go over your pet's history and potential problems with you. You are welcome to ask any questions, and we will devote time to answering them.
Examination, Diagnosis & Treatment
We will give you a diagnosis and treatment options after we have assessed your pet. Your veterinarian and you will collaborate to come up with a treatment plan for your pet.
We'll write a detailed report of our diagnosis, our conversation with you, and your pet's treatment plan after your visit. We'll keep this information on hand in case you need it in the future.

Hospital FAQs
Read through our hospital FAQs to learn more about our office policies, payment options, and appointment scheduling.
- Do you offer pet loss grief support?
Our team understands that the grief from losing a pet can be overwhelming. While we do not offer grief support sessions onsite we are proud to recommend the Drop-In Pet Loss Support Group for Adults at Yolo Hospice. Click below to learn more.
- What types of payment options are available?
Payment in full is due at the time services are rendered or when your pet is discharged. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express as forms of payment.
- Are there payment plans available for my pet’s care?
We are proud to offer CareCredit as a financing option. They offer an easy application process that will give you results in minutes.
- Will I be provided with an estimate of costs?
Prior to treating your pet, we will provide a reasonable estimate of the cost of our services. Unforeseen circumstances may, however, have an impact on your final bill.
Before leaving our facility, we will always discuss our written estimate with all clients and require a deposit based on our estimate prior to any further treatment.
- Should I call ahead to book an appointment?
Yes, please call ahead to make an appointment to ensure that we have time to see your pet.
In the event that your pet needs emergency care during our regular business hours, please contact us right away.
- What is your appointment cancellation policy?
Please notify us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment so that we can make room for other clients.
- What types of animals do you treat?
We care for cats and dogs of all breeds and sizes, and offer boarding services for all types of small domestic companion animals including birds, hamsters, rabbits and more.
- Do you offer behavioral training?
Rely on Irvine Pet Hospital to help your pet overcome any behavioral problems he or she may be having. Whether your pet is exhibiting aggression, separation anxiety, phobias or compulsive disorders, we can help.
We use a combination of methods to modify pet behavior, including training, environmental changes and medication. In every instance, through the use of techniques and programs that have been designed specifically for pets, we can help you to change undesirable behavior into behavior that’s sociable, obedient and fun.
We use positive reinforcement methods only. We do not advocate choke collars, prong collars or shock collars — and do not believe spanking or yelling at a dog serves any useful purpose.
- Where can I purchase my pet's prescription and food?
You can purchase all the medications and specialty food your pet needs either via our online store or our in-house pharmacy.
At Irvine Pet Hospital we also offer JustFoodForDogs for pet owners looking to provide their pet with fresh-made, frozen whole foods that are formulated and produced locally.

- How do you support animals in our community?
We are proud to support our community in many ways. Read on for just a few of the ways we are dedicated to pets and people in Irvine.
Irvine Pet Hospital is associated with the Coastline Regional Occupational Program, which allows ROP students the opportunity to gain real world experience in the fields of their choice. We have been fortunate to work with many exceptional ROP students throughout the years, and currently have several employees on staff that started their Irvine Pet Hospital experience through the ROP program.
We have been involved in the care and treatment of many stray animals that have been placed in loving homes throughout the Irvine Area through Irvine Animal Care and Control and the Irvine Animal Care Center. Many of our staff were proud to participate in the IACC Pet Trek Event at Woodbridge Park. We had a great time meeting and greeting many wonderful pets and their owners, and were proud to support the shelter in their efforts to care for homeless, abused, and neglected pets in our area.
We host an Annual Holiday Charity Drive to benefit the Irvine Animal Care Center in December. Through the generosity of our clients and IPC Team Members, we were able to donate hundreds of items, including bedding, toys, office supplies, and pet food to the Irvine shelter. We are so thankful to everyone who donated and look forward to next year’s event.
- Can you help with my pet insurance?
We'll gladly assist you in completing pet insurance forms.
